  2. NetMagic
  3. THE ONE NETWORK TOOL!
  4.  
  5. NetMagic is a network supervisor's best friend, and a REAL
  6. network tool.  It replaces the many confusing and hard to use
  7. Novell utilities with an easy to use mouse driven Windows 3.0
  8. interface.  In addition NetMagic supplies the supervisor with
  9. real management by "showing" what is occurring on the network. 
  10. Charts showing user versus file server activity, open files,
  11. activity over time, file server statistics, and other
  12. information can be generated. 
  13.  
  14. All of NetMagic's features are broken into easy to understand
  15. menu options. This eliminates "control clutter".  Instead of
  16. multiple utilities to really manage the network now there is
  17. only one.
  18.  
  19. NetMagic is a Microsoft Windows and Macintosh utility for
  20. controlling and managing Novell networks.  SYSCON, FCONSOLE, and
  21. PCONSOLE plus other Novell utilities, have been replaced by an
  22. easy to use graphical interface.

  24. All options are activated from either a pull down menu or
  25. through dialog boxes.  In addition, NetMagic provides numerous
  26. graphs displaying critical network information in an easy to
  27. understand format.

  29. User and Group Control
  30. ----------------------
  31. NetMagic replaces those hard to use and understand commands that
  32. are currently used to control the network; with one easy to use
  33. program.  Now, instead of using SYSCON to manage users and
  34. groups (i.e. delete, create, modify, change password, etc.) you
  35. can use NetMagic.  NetMagic with it's USER CONTROL, and help
  36. file, make it easier to control, manage users and groups. 
  37. NetMagic also adds features Novell doesn't provide, such as
  38. DUPLICATE and EASY NEW.  The DUPLICATE button allows the
  39. supervisor to quickly duplicate a user across all file servers. 
  40. No more first viewing what the user's configuration is on the
  41. first file server, then attaching to the second file server and
  42. re-entering the information.  EASY NEW is not just for beginning
  43. network managers, but also for the over burdened network
  44. manager.  EASY NEW  assists a supervisor in creating a new user
  45. on the network.  Each step of EASY NEW is prompt driven and menu
  46. assisted - providing an easy to follow fool-proof method for
  47. creating network users.  EASYNEW virtually guarantees that the
  48. new user is created successfully.  NetMagic is a real time-saver
  49. that no network manager should be without.

  51. For group control NetMagic will allow an entire group to be
  52. monitored, created, duplicated, deleted, assigned trustee
  53. rights, and cleared at a time.  Unlike some of SYSCON's group
  54. management, NetMagic's group management treats all users in the
  55. group as a group; a group action is executed for all users in
  56. the group (i.e. sending a message, clearing network connections,
  57. etc).

  59. File Server Control
  60. -------------------
  61. To control the network, NetMagic replaces the FCONSOLE utility
  62. with two different menu options, one to configure the file
  63. server, the other to obtain statistical information about the
  64. server.  NetMagic's SERVER CONTROL screen has all the control
  65. options as FCONSOLE, except instead of multiple confusing menu
  66. options, easy to understand push buttons are available. 
  67. NetMagic's simplicity will increase your productivity while
  68. reducing network headaches.

  70. File Server control allows such functions as setting file server
  71. date and time, enabling / disabling TTS, accounting, and login
  72. status, downing the server, and editing server login script, as
  73. well as additional commands.

  75. Since NetMagic was designed from the outset as a graphical
  76. interface, it takes advantage of this interface by allowing a
  77. user to switch from one active file server to the next at a
  78. click of a button.  All dialog boxes contain a list of attached
  79. file servers. If information is required about a particular file
  80. server then just by clicking on that file server, it will cause
  81. it to appear on the screen.  Using this method, NetMagic treats
  82. multiple file servers, (up to 8 under Windows, 16 under the
  83. Macintosh), as one; easily copying users from one file server to
  84. another with as little as 2 mouse clicks.

  86. Graphs, Graphs, Graphs
  87. ----------------------
  88. NetMagic would not be the ultimate network control utility if it
  89. just provided an easier method for managing the network.  A
  90. "real" network utility needs to provide diagnostic information
  91. on network performance, allowing the supervisor to make
  92. intelligent and informed decisions.  NetMagic provides graphs
  93. which display data read, and data written, as well as total
  94. data.  These charts are useful for example, when managing a
  95. network which has a database on it.  Certain users which enter
  96. data into the database may be utilizing more than what would be
  97. expected, indicating that a database purge, or reorganization
  98. may be required.

  100. NetMagic displays not only network reads/writes, but also user
  101. versus server performance, user versus user traffic, user versus
  102. network traffic, or all traffic over time.  NetMagic will
  103. generate charts of the 10 most active users on the network in
  104. terms of disk space, directory space, packet traffic, etc. 
  105. NetMagic answers the question "Who are the busiest users on the
  106. network?".  NetMagic's answers are not confusing numbers but
  107. real-time percentages.

  109. All of NetMagic's graphs can be copied to the clipboard and
  110. pasted into your favorite word processor.  The same chart you
  111. view can now be included into the daily or weekly network
  112. reports.  Long explanations to others, of network traffic, are
  113. no longer necessary. NetMagic's charts can be saved to disk to
  114. be read and copied to the clipboard at a later time.

  116. Queue Control
  117. -------------
  118. NetMagic replaces Novell's PCONSOLE with an easy to understand
  119. menu option called "Queue Control".  With "Queue Control" a
  120. supervisor can add, delete, and pause queue jobs.  Features
  121. currently found in PCONSOLE, are also available in NetMagic but
  122. with a much simpler interface.  NetMagic supports features not
  123. found in PCONSOLE, such as moving a job from one queue to
  124. another, or copying a job not only from one queue to another,
  125. but from one queue on one server to another queue on another
  126. server.

  129. ----
  130. Help is always available at a touch of a button.  The help is
  131. not just a straight text file but is broken up by category
  132. providing detailed information on the exact issue required.

  134. NetMagic's Coming Features
  135.  
  136. NetMagic will be adding Novell Netware Name Support in the next
  137. release and improved network monitoring for Netware 386. 
  138. Graphical reports now available for the screen will be available
  139. on disk as a standard ascii file, and will be importable to
  140. Excel.

  142. Other Features
  143. --------------
  144. The major feature of NetMagic is the way it "looks" at the
  145. network.  Most network utilities available today treat multiple
  146. networks as separate entities; in most cases duplicating, or
  147. triplicating the amount of work required by the system manager. 
  148. To create new user JOE on two file servers, first the manager
  149. must login to the first file server, create JOE, answer all
  150. appropriate questions, then logout of the first file server and
  151. login to the second file server, and repeat the same step.  With
  152. even more servers this task becomes almost unmanageable. 
  153. NetMagic changes all of that by treating multiple file servers
  154. as one.  If a new JOE is required on multiple file servers then
  155. by specifying the file servers JOE is going to be associated
  156. with, JOE is then created.  As each question is answered
  157. NetMagic updates each file server simultaneously.

  159. Message Center - allows the sending of messages to any number of
  160. users or groups on up to eight file servers at a time.  From the
  161. Message Center, console users can disable the reception of
  162. messages, and when sending a mess1age can obtain a detailed
  163. report on whether the message was correctly sent or not.

  165. Other Platforms
  166. ---------------
  167. NetMagic will also be available for the Macintosh, and
  168. Presentation Manager.  For Macintosh's NetMagic will control all
  169. Novell file servers that support the Macintosh file structure. 
  170. For Presentation Manager NetMagic will support all Novell file
  171. servers.

  174. -------
  175. NetMagic's suggested retail price is $695 per file server, for
  176. unlimited users.  Included with the price is 90 day technical
  177. support, and free updates during the warranty period.

  179. System Requirements
  180.  
  181. NetMagic does not require an NLM or VAP, but is instead a
  182. standard Windows 3.0 program.  NetMagic will operate on any PC
  183. set up with the Windows 3.0 and a network.  All Novell
  184. topologies are supported, including Ethernet, Token Ring, etc. 
  185. Netware 286 Version 2.10 or higher is required.  Netware 386 is
  186. supported on a limited basis at this time.
